Quick Update

The Caves, Nasik.

Went to the caves and it was nice and quiet, compared to Old Nasik…glad to have ventured out of this City.  Old Nasik is crowded with people selling their goods in every corner.  Took some great pics of the cave and the Ashram surroundings.  Can’t wait to post them once I get back home.

A couple weeks ago, I noticed a boy, about 10 years old that comes to the Ashram to either drop off milk or get milk. He wears a smaller dress shirt, his hair is combed to the side and his long pants has a huge tear that could expose his underwear if he only dared to walk differently! He waits in the kitchen looking at the foreigners do their Karma yoga (cutting veggies, washing dishes, mopping etc).  He has the most peaceful, curious expression….and he reminds me of Nicolas.  Everytime I see him, I tear up.  Just before hopping on the bus for the big day out, I saw him, ran back to my dorm, grabbed the last chocolate candy I had and gave him. First he gave me the Indian expression with his hands and shook his head, but I told him it’s chocolate and he smiled.  His face lit up every so coyly and took it.  I’m veclemt (almost in tears again just writing this…sheesh!…my sensitive side is showing!).  I asked a couple students about ways to support the community/ families.  Apparently the funds from students at the ashram goes toward helping kids in the area to go to school -seva yoga.

While walking the dirt paths to Trimbak.

  1. ohh, I would not have given him my last piece of chocolate. I would have pulled out my sewing stuff and stitches his pants back into shape :O)

Cant wait to see all those pictures, enjoy, have fun and be safe!

  2. I can relate to this sensitive interaction with children like that boy when I was in VN & Cambodia. Wished I could do more…
Please keep posting when you have a chance.
It's very cold here, so enjoy the warmth there as much as you can!

  3. Hi Nirala,
I Have been thinking a lot of you (I always think you are great) I mean, ABOUT you and wondering how you were getting along in this adventure. The blog looks great, love your truthfulness. The child that look like Kos made me all emotional as well, I wonder If I am about to get my period…those Hormones.
Incredibly about that doctor and the stop being so perfectionist, we always want to much, eh?
Descansa! Adios, amiga, hasta la proxima, Maca

  4. Maca, nice to hear from you. I will have to work so hard to not be a perfectionist…like doing things half-way just to prove a point! 🙂

Le, glad you found the blog entries! Wish I had more time for this. It's unbelievable and sad how parents use their young children to beg for money. They are well trained to spot foreigners as well.

Nathalie, it was my first thought and that urge didn't leave me until I pictured myself using hand signals to convince this shy boy to take his pants off amongst all the foreigners looking on! 🙂 So, chocolate was the next best thing.
