Wrapping Things Up on the Last Day

Here’s a diety depiction of Patanjali, the sage who wrote/compiled the yoga sutras, the foundation of traditional (ashtanga) yoga. The 3.5 coiled snake represents the kundalini. There was no way my Kundalini was ever going to wake up at the 5:45am meditation!  Maybe at noon!

Patanjali – composer of the yoga sutras.

It’s ceremony time and wish I brought something snazzy from the closet of clothes at home which I never wear. Except it would have to be below the knees for India. Le, you thought your butt looked big…I look chunky and all over!

I shared the room with this little guy for the past month. He helped with the skeeters and the various selection of ants. Good thing there weren’t any more roaches in my room.
Students looking skeptical about the last ‘eat your scarf’ cleansing kriya. Not really a scarf but a long-ass strip of cotton, about 1.5 meters long and 1.5 inches wide…almost like a scarf. Got to the point of gagging and thought it would be the wrong kriya if I threw up so I disappeared. Olga in the sky blue top was the only one who managed to get the scarf down about 1 feet. Crazy stuff!
Here’s Samira taking some awesome pics of my awesome soaps on an awesome banana leaf…
Had to crop the uterus cover from this picture of the shirodhara experience. Warm oil is dripped from on the middle of the forehead. Heavenly and hypnotizing. Made me fall asleep every time…but then again, with no ability to sleep in and long hours of daily practice, it’s no wonder.
After the ceremony, 2 others and myself left the ashram after a month of extremely intensive training. I will miss this ashram since I felt comfortable with the people and surroundings. We took a taxi to Hotel Flora in Cochi. They’ll be staying overnight and leave for an island off Thailand. My flight leaves tonight for Trivandrum, even further south of India.
And…drum roll…tomorrow morning @ around 10am, I take a quick flight to Maafushi, Maldives! Hanging out on the beach for just 3 days…meditating, of course. When bliss is reached, I’ll take a break to scare some fish…diving and maybe other tours. I’ve booked a backpackers hotel in Maafushi a few months ago and confirmed the reservation before leaving Ontario. Dude simply wrote back and said he’s looking forward to meeting and didn’t even request payment or deposit. Being used to confirmation numbers etc., this laid back island style is unnerving.  Friggin’ island people ;). Wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for being out in the middle of the wrong ocean! If the Internet works, I will be able to shoot out a reminder but until then, I’m holding out on trust.

Not sure what the Internet situation will be for the next 3 days but will post pictures and update whenever I can. Didn’t have much chance to provide some details in previous posts and this one seems long.
At the time of writing this, it’s less than half hour before my flight to Trivandrum and only 2 other passengers are waiting here. Yes, I’ve checked, it’s the correct airport and gate. And no, the gate number has not changed. Now only if the entire journey back to Canada will be this empty! I’d sprawl out on the empty seats git me some sleep! Since Trivandrum is only a 25 minute flight, wouldn’t it be funny if it was a small propeller plane equipped with parachutes. I hope that the hotel reservation in Trivandrum also exists for my overnight stay. Lots of ‘hopes’ and ‘ifs’ right now. Crap! The plane is already holding passengers. Didn’t see that one coming.
Well I shall be off…

  3. Anytime Le! When I can comfortably incorporate some of what was taught and perhaps aim to bring the foundation of yoga forward to students, then I can perhaps feel good about it. Right now everything is a mumble jumble! 🙂

  5. There is wifi and it works! 🙂

Scuba diving was so good I'm going back tomorrow! The hotel is super clean but it seems like no one works there except for a guy that sweeps and speaks no English. I'll answer your inquisition on my next posting. 🙂
